Lady Captain's message
I am both honoured and highly delighted to have been asked to be Lady Captain for 2008. Ever since Peter had been Captain in 2003, I had hoped to be asked one day to be Lady Captain and I havent had to wait too long. Our Lady President, Maureen Howie, first introduced me to the Ladies Committee as the Ladies Honorary Treasurer, when she was Lady Captain in 1998. I very much look forward to our year together and Im sure we will share lots of happy and memorable moments, both on the course and socially.
As the new golfing season gets under way, I am looking forward to partnering our new Mr. Captain, John Stubbs, in the Archie Preston, DOyly Carte, Mersey Bowl and the Mixed Knockout, not to mention the odd frolic together. I wish the Captain, our New President, John Lowis, and Junior Captain, Sarabjit Ranshi a very successful, enjoyable and memorable year.
My chosen charity is The Alzheimers Society, and I am supporting the local Trafford Carers Branch. I raised a wonderful £331 at my Drive-in, and would like to thank everyone who contributed. Congratulations to Mr Jack Bishop, who won the raffle prize of a bottle of whisky and a Thorntons Easter Egg. If you missed out, dont worry, there will be a few more chances to donate to my charity and hopefully win a prize!
Unfortunately, the membership of the ladies section has decreased over the past year, and with a few ladies changing to 5-day membership, we shall miss them taking part in the frolics, mixed Exchange Day and the Mersey Bowl. However, I look forward to playing with as many ladies as I can throughout the coming season and hopefully we may see a few new members. Peters nickname was Captain Sunshine, so I would really like a similar sunny year.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the existing members of the committee for their continued support and welcome all the new members to their positions, all of whom have served on committee in previous years! They are all volunteers, and spend a considerable amount of time doing their best to make our golf enjoyable.
I would like to thank you all for the lovely cards and best wishes I received on my appointment, and to the Council for the lovely flowers presented at the Drive In. I wish all members a very happy, healthy and successful season.
